Pentaco Construction Ltd was appointed as the main contractor following the submission of a competitive tender, followed by a two week period of interviews and negotiations.

The Central Sterilising Services Department (CSSD) was the ‘flag ship’ project of 2008 for the Norfolk NHS PCT and therefore it was imperative that the contract was placed with a contractor they could develop a solid working relationship with. The project involved the refurbishment of the existing kitchen facility at the Norwich Community Hospital to form a ‘state of the art’ sterilising facility which would serve the Norfolk and surrounding area Hospitals and PCT’s.

The Pentaco team and our supply chain became an integral part of the overall project team and fully engaged in design team meetings, value engineering/innovation sessions and key date programme meetings. As the project progressed various problems were thrown up to test the team in terms of the discovery of asbestos, structural issues and procurement problems with some of the major equipment. Solutions were sought in a proactive and collaborative manner by the project team working together became the key driver to finding the most cost effective path. The project did overrun its original duration; however, the team remained proactive and flexible managing to achieve the milestone dates to ensure that the bespoke equipment manufactured in Germany was delivered and installed on time. The facility is now fully operational and has been praised for its quality of workmanship and the manner in which it was delivered.
