The Old Bus Station Thetford
Pentaco Construction Ltd were appointed as the main contractor following a six week negotiation period held with the client and his design team.
The Old Bus Station in Thetford had been redundant for several years and was falling into disrepair before an offer was made to purchase the property by Hadley Homes, a local development company. The building is situated in the historic centre of Thetford and has a Grade II listing. The client’s Architect submitted a formal application for planning to develop the site into 21 apartments, with a view to retain the existing listed façade and constructing a steel frame within the core of the building to form the new structure.
Pentaco Construction Ltd was asked to become part of the development team and add ‘weight’ to the construction design and development process. We assembled an in house project team to assess the buildability of the scheme and the logistics of constructing in an extremely confined space, with difficult access and party wall issues.
The team remained focused, proactive and flexible throughout managing to achieve several milestone dates to ensure that the project completed on time and within budget. The scheme was registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and received excellent scores and generous comments from the assessment team.
